My dialup keeps freezing and disconnecting. Some days not so much other times the problem continues forever......... connect, disconnect........ connect, disconnect, over and over, often before a website will even load up. I've been blaming Microsoft, but wondering if the following is at least part of the problem.

W32time error says:

(error 17)
Time Provider NtpClient: An error occurred during DNS lookup of the manually configured peer 'time.windows.com,0x1'. NtpClient will try the DNS lookup again in 15 minutes. The error was: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host. (0x80072751)

...or this:
(error 29)
The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 14 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

In addition to the W32time 17 and 29, I also get netlogon and service control manager errors.

Service control manager error says:

(error 7026)
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
SBRE

.......or this:
(error 7023)
The Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework service terminated with the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

As far as the netlogon error, I don't think it's an issue............ This computer was formerly at a business. MNA was the business name. I am of course, not part of, nor connected to their system.

The net log on error says:
No Domain Controller is available for domain MNA due to the following:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. .
Make sure that the computer is connected to the network and try again. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator.

The numerous errors you see are most likely just my disconnect and reconnect attempts during a short time period this morning, with the errors showing up each time I redial.

My external modem shows "no problems with this device" and it has no updated drivers that can be installed.

Net off all day again today.

Seems like your time service has gone AWOL, and in my experience, time.windows.com is unreliable anyway.
Choose a time server located near you (you can look for example in the list linked below, or your ISP might have one as well), reset the time service, and configure the new external time server.
Open a command prompt, enter

net stop w32time
w32tm /unregister
w32tm /register
net time /setsntp:129.6.15.28
net start w32time

A few minutes after the "net start" command, you should see an entry for a successful time sync in the system event log. If not, make sure UDP 123 outbound is open on your firewall.
If you want to use a FQDN instead of the IP address as time server, add ",0x1" at the end:
net time /setsntp:time-a.nist.gov,0x1

I read some fixes like this on the internet when researching my problem, but they all left me with questions on the procedure. First of all, how do I determine if 'UDP 123 outbound' is open on my firewall?

I have no clue as to how I can view or detect the ports or port locations on my confuzer, let alone if they are "open".

I can connect to the internet, and it will stay connected for a long time.......................... sometimes. At this moment, I have been connected for about 1 1/2 hours with no issues.

Sometimes, it will disconnect, or stall 5 times in 10 minutes, and I have to redial each time.

That said, I still want to determine if this w32time error is part of the problem so that I can rule it in, or rule it out, as a connection issue.

time.windows.com

Microsoft server mess up fairly often from my experience and why I use:

Primary - time-a.nist.gov

or time-b.nist.gov

I just type them into the internet time server, if they are not listed and they stay.

A list of the time servers.

http://tf.nist.gov/tf-cgi/servers.cgi

Click on the clock in your system tray
This will bring up the calendar and time
Click Change date and time settings...
The Date and Time dialog will appear
Click on the Internet Time tab
Click Change settings
The Internet Time Settings dialog will appear.

From here you can select which time server to sync your computer's time to as well as if you want to sync it up right then and there.

I get this error. "An error occurred getting the status of the last synchronization. A security package specific error occurred.
Is my Zonealarm firewall doing this?
I did not notice, but that same error might have been there when I changed the time server location.............. It was set on time.nist.gov
I noticed that that the one you used says "all services busy" at the moment.

I reset the clock to time-c.nist.gov and went to Zonealarm and typed in the IP address to allow this location and the clock still displays the same error.

Sounds like ZA is goofing up again to me.

I gave up on it years ago.

Try uninstalling ZA, reboot and get the internet time working right, reboot and then reinstall ZA.

See if that helps.

I sit behind a router and use the native windows firewall since XP SP3 came out, with never a problem.

Hi, use revo uninstaller to remove ZA Don't use add and remove . it will leave a ton of files in the registry .

I snoozed ZA for 5 minutes after starting windows firewall............. That didn't make a difference. Same error.
I used REVO for getting rid of my Adobe stuff.............. I always get weak legs when I click on the 'check all' box.
