Processor is running around 150F
Mainboard 105F
Graphics card 128F
HardDisk 112F

Definitely need to get it cooled off in there.

I used to have a temperature display and fan control on the case, but my brother set it in the back of the car without bracing it and a friend threw the hatch open so the computer flew out and crashed on the driveway hard. Some external pieces broke off. I was amazed everything still worked afterward.

Way to hot , Should be around 54

Way to hot , Should be around 54

That's 54 Celsius not Fahrenheit from what I've read though. Processor is running around 60C though, so it is higher than it should be. Motherboard is 40C, graphics 53C, and hard drive 44C.

I have a fan that can fit in a spare slot that I want to see if I can have put in and hooked up. If it works it might help to cool.

havasu, I'm about at my wit's end with my brother right now. I'll spare you from the rant.

Edit to add: I'm currently downloading the Drive Fitness Test for my hard drive. It's a 2mb file but it's got 2minutes left to go on the download. Throttled internet... #firstworldproblems

Finally loaded but it wants to burn a copy to a DVD and I don't have any burnable DVDs. LOL. I think I should just get my files transferred over to my new drive.

Those are good temps. Forget F with computers and PLEASE use C, as that is what I'm looking for and will find.

Your temps are fine .

Thanks, Nick.

I turned up the fan knobs on my case and pointed my table fan directly at the back of the computer for a few hours so now it has cooled off. it's also night so it isn't as warm in the house.

Temps:
CPU 50C
Mainboard 40C
Graphics 51C
HD 44C

I may have to just set up a little fan to blow cold air on the back of the PC to help cool it from now on.

I'll see if the program in your link will work to diagnose the drive.

Right now it is taking forever to download. My ISP has not been uncapping my speed when it is supposed to.

Edit: Ok. downloaded it and ran it and it didn't have any HD in the list. It came with two exe files.. One called setup, but I don't know what the program was exactly. Do I need to run the setup one to run the DFT?

On a side note, if I cloned my HD and copied it over to a new one, would it corrupt the new one? Or would it likely be ok if the problem is the old one having bad sectors or some sort of mechanical failure of sorts? I want to keep my software, preferences, etc, without having to reinstall everything.

Edit again: So, I ran the setup file to install the software and the ran the software, but it isn't showing any harddisks in the list so I can't get it to do anything.

You are putting the same errors on the new drive .

Run Speedtest.net see what your download, and upload is .

http://www.speedtest.net/

The problem is we went over the ISP's monthly limit because the ISP's server is counting our usage during the time when it isn't supposed to be counting-- it seems to have us on the wrong plan or wrong time zone. So we are severely throttled. There are also problems with the web acceleration software that cause it to miscalculate our actual usage.

Additionally, the signal to noise ratio is only 3.3dB and it should be at least 7. Ideally it should be 8 or 9.

I may have to deal with the myrtle tree next to the dish.

Yeah, didn't think the cloned thing would work.

Not sure why the diagnostic thing for the HD won't work. I don't know if it is a case of PEBKAC or if my computer is just having issues with it.

Z, Download GSmartControl for Windows and save it to your desktop, http://gsmartcontrol.en.softonic.com/
Unzip the folder to your desktop
Double click gsmartcontrol.exe
Allow the program to search for and list your hard drive(s)
Double click your drive
Go to the PERFORM TESTS tab
Make sure that the TEST TYPE is set to SHORT SELF-TEST
Click the EXECUTE button
After the test completes, click the VIEW OUTPUT button and copy and paste the contents in your reply

Thanks, Nick. Trying to download the software, but it says it still has 3 minutes to go. My ISP is not unthrottling me when it should.
It should have been uncapped an hour ago.

I rebooted my modem to try to fix the issue, but it didn't work, so I had to call technical support. They had to reboot it on their end while I rebooted the router. My modem has consistently not been getting unthrottled at the appropriate time, so I'm going to hit my ISP up for more bandwidth as compensation because I've been having problems.

This is my speed test when I am NOT capped (note, I will always have high ping because it's satellite):

Nick, my computer just hates these programs apparently. I think it's so corrupted it is causing things to fail. The drive is several years old though.

However, I did get this from the Attributes tab:

I think it is telling me that my hard drive is senile. :p

Can't believe your speeds ,Almost as fast as dial up .

Let me check this out .
Do you get anything from the error log ?

No. It won't create an error log.

I just found it amusing that the Attributes tab had several things that said "old age".

Because there old . :)

Try running CHKDSK .Start - run - paste CHKDSK into prompt.

If that don't work try MS's built in instructions .

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2641432

I ran disk defragment earlier. Not sure if it helped.

Just tried to run chkdsk and it opened for a split second and then closed immediately.

I've scheduled a disk check via the instructions from the microsoft site though. I'll run it when I reboot later.

Yes, it looks like the drive is failing.

Errors listed here are mechanical errors but those MAY cause some data errors.

You surely should back everything up however some data MAY be corrupted.

We can remove the corrupted data after you back up to the new drive .

We're just spinning our wheels in the sand here .

Yeah, was gonna get my friend to help me get everything migrated over but his favorite aunt just died and he finally broke up with his **** girlfriend today. She's pretty much ruined his life and treats him like garbage so he finally broke it off but he feels terrible about it. I think I'll see if I can make sure to back up stuff to portable drives as well-- just in case.
